Our mission is to help middle school students within the Karen ethnic community in San Diego attain higher education by providing resources they may not have been exposed to. We also want to extend this educational opportunity to all students who live in the City Heights community, where access to educational resources is hard to receive due to the strained budgets. Among major Asian ethnic groups in the US, refugees from Burma have the highest high school dropout rate at 44%. Our project plans to provide mentoring services to students who are in need of guidance for their future, especially those who are Karen refugees, as it is a challenge to transition from a Karen society to an American lifestyle.
